Cootehill (population 1,822) is a small market town in northeast County Cavan.
Attractions
Bellamont House (1729) Palladian villa. Open in the afternoons. Home to the Coote family, after whom the town is named.
Cootehill Arts Festival presents music, drama, literature, and art events. It runs from October 18th-29th in 2001.
Amenities
Just north of the town on the R188, Rockcorry/Monaghan road, is Bellamont Forest Park. There are forest walks, as well as coarse fishing and boats for hire on nearby Dromlona Lake.
Transport
There are a few buses each day to Cavan, and one of them connects to Dublin. There are also two buses a day running between Cavan and Monaghan during the school year that stop in Cootehill.
