To & From Ireland

Travelling to and from Ireland is quick, easy and relatively inexpensive, thanks to increasing competition between operators.

The principal ferry routes to the United Kingdom are:-
Larne (N.I. Belfast)- Stranraar (Scotland) Stena Line 1 hour
Larne (N.I. Belfast) - Cairnryan (Scotland) P&O European Ferries 1 hour
Dublin - Holyhead Irish Ferries 3 hours
Dun Laoghaire - Holyhead Stena Line 3 hours by ferry 1 hour on H.S Cat
Rosslare - Pembroke (Wales) Irish Ferries 4 hours
Rosslare - Fishguard (Wales) Stena Line 3 hours by ferry 1 hour H.S. Cat.
Cork - Swansea (Wales) Cork Swansea Ferries 10 hours

Fares are varied, with many short break special packages on offer at different times. It would be impractical to specify them here. Direct contact with the operator when planning a trip is the only accurate source of information. Some useful contact points are:-

Brittany Ferries
tel: (353) (0)21 277801
Irish Ferries
tel: (353) (0)1 551995
P&O European Ferries
tel: (44) (0)870 2424777
Stena Line
tel: (353) (0)1 2047700
Swansea Cork Ferries
tel: (353) (0)21 271166

Irish Ferries also run ferries to France from:-
Rosslare to Cherbourg 18 hours
Rosslare to Le Harve 22 hours
Cork to Rosscoff 15 hours

Air travel is presently particularly good value, thanks greatly to Ryanair. This Irish low cost airline has made huge inroads into reducing air travel costs, provoking fierce competition throughout the sector.

The country is served by many airlines, some of the major operators being:-

tel: (353) (0)1 6774422
Aer Lingus
tel: (353) (0)1 8444777
Air France
tel: (353) (0)1 8445633
British Airways
tel: (353) (0)1 222111
Continental Airlines
tel: (353) (0)1 4073014
British Midland
tel: (353) (0)1 2838833

These airlines, between them, offer flights world-wide and again prices vary hugely with a number of discount offers always available. The earlier a booking can be made generally means the greater the discounts available.

For private jet or helicopter charter try Westair 1800 560504

Many Irish airports are managed by Aer Rianta whose web site is an excellent information and referral point at Tel: (353) (0)1 814111
