Newtownards
(population 24,301) is situated in north east County Down on
the northern shores of Strangford Lough.
Attractions
Scrabo
Hill Country Park is 2 kilometres south west of town. It features
the 41-metre-high 1857 Memorial Tower, which can be climbed
and offers views across Strangford Lough. The tower is only
open from June to September, and is closed on Fridays.
Ards Arts Centre (+44 28 91810803) is in Market House on High
Street.
There
is a market in Conway Square every Saturday.
Strangford Lough is a great nature reserve, featuring colonies
of seals and birds.
Ark
Open farm (+44 28 91820445), 3 kilometres outside the town on
Bangor Road, features rare breeds of farm animals.
Across the road from Ark Open Farm is the Somme Heritage Centre.

Transport
There
are buses roughly every half-hour to Bangor and Belfast and
