Kinsale, County
Cork, is a popular tourist destination offering
an excellent range of bed and breakfast
(B&B), guesthouse and hotel accommodation for
the holiday visitor on vacation in Ireland. In the
shops are Irish crafts, lead cut crystal, Irish
linen, Irish foods and other locally produced
items. Local activities and interests include
sailing, golf and fine dining in award winning
restaurants and pubs.
Modern day
Kinsale is a pretty seaside town, steeped in the
history of bygone eras and well worth a visit.
The town is some 16 miles south of Cork City,
located on the estuary of the Bandon river. It
nestles in a valley below picturesque rolling
countryside, and boasts a natural harbour and
substantial marina complex.
Tourism is
today’s largest industry, though a broad
range of light manufacturing and agriculture
based businesses flourish here.
Leisure and
tourism are, however, the main thrust of modern
day Kinsale, with a vast array of activities
available to provide something for all ages and
all pockets throughout the year.
Kinsale was the
first winner in 1995 of the prestigious European
prize for tourism and the environment.
Accommodation in Kinsale is as varied as the choice of activities,
ranging from Dempseys Hostel (353) (0)21 4772124 to the five
star Perryville House Hotel (353) (0)21 4772731, with prices
ranging from under €15 per night to well over €100 per night.
A huge selection
of pubs and restaurants is available to locals
and visitors to Kinsale, offering a complete
spectrum of dining experiences from fish and
chips on the quayside to five course gourmet
dinners. Not surprisingly, Kinsale has the
enviable reputation as the “Gourmet Capital
of Ireland”.
