Ennis
(population 17,726), Clare's county town, is located between
two streams of the River Fergus. It is an administrative and
market town for the area. It is renowned for its traditional
music, and there is always live music to be found in one of
the town's pubs on any given night of the week.
The town, which was designated by Eircom as Ireland's first
Information Age Town, benefits from Ireland's biggest community
technology project.
Attractions
O'Connell
Street Monument to Daniel O'Connell, who was a champion of Catholic
emancipation.
De Valera Museum on Harmony Row. The museum is devoted to de
Valera's life and work.
Saint Peter and Paul's Cathedral (1843)
Franciscan Friary (c.1240). Most of the existing structure dates
from the 14th century, when the friary was considered the best
educational institution in Ireland for the clergy and upper
classes.
The Fleadh Nua music festival during the last weekend in May.
The Guinness Traditional Music Festival during the second weekend
in November.
