Wicklow
town (population 7,290) occupies a very scenic part of the east
coast.
Attractions
The
town's old jail, which was built in 1702 and has now been restored.
Audio-visual tours run year round, and guided tours run from
2nd to 24th of December in 2000 and from 17th of March to 31st
of September in 2001.
There is also a Heritage Centre and genealogy centre in the
jail. You need to make an appointment in advance.
The remains of the Black Castle(1169) on the shore at the south
end of the town.
Amenities
Two golf courses, Wicklow and Blainroe, which is further south.
Cliff walk around Wicklow head.
Transport
Wicklow
town is 51 kilometres south of Dublin on the N11.
There are ten Bus Éireann buses and four trains each
day to Dublin.
