Longford
(population 6,984) is a busy market town lying on the River
Camlin 76 miles north west of Dublin.
The town is connected to the Royal Canal, which runs from Dublin
to the River Shannon and was once a major trade route for the
town.
Attractions
Carriglass
Manor, home of the Huguenot Lefroys since it was built in 1837,
is 5 kilometres north east of the town. It is open for guided
tours and offers Bed & Breakfast accommodation.
There is an ecclesiastical museum in 19th-century St Mel's Cathedral.

Longford Golf Club is on the Dublin side of the town. Turn left
before the Esso petrol station as you approach the town centre.
Transport
There
are four trains and five buses to Dublin each day.
