Ballina
(population 8,762), Mayo's largest town, is situated on the
River Moy, one of the most prolific salmon rivers in Europe.
There
is also fishing to the north in Killala Bay, and there is brown
trout in Lough Conn to the southwest.
Ballina
has a lot of pubs, and many of them have traditional music on
Wednesday and Friday nights.
The
Ballina Street Festival runs 12th to 21st July 2002.
There
is a public swimming pool on Cathedral Road, and Ballina Golf
Club is in Mossgrove, Shanaghy. Tel. (096) 21050.
Transport
There
are five Bus Éireann Expressway buses to Dublin each
day. Six in the summer.
Ballina is also well connected by Bus Éireann to other
towns in Connaught.
Ballina is on the Dublin-Westport train route, with three trains
a day to and from Dublin.
